About a month ago, I decided to switch up my morning caffeine source. I had wanted to make my own matcha latte for a while but was honestly overwhelmed when it came to buying the matcha powder itself—I had so many questions! How much do I need to spend for ‘good’ matcha? What should it look like? What is the difference between cafe grade and ceremonial? These uncertainties made me put off buying my own matcha for months. I finally took to Facebook for some answers and Brittany of Wight Tea Co. agreed to do make a video that explained all things matcha. My questions were answered, and I realized a lot of people had similar uncertainties to mine!
Matcha is a wonderful alternative to coffee or tea. When you’re drinking matcha, you’re drinking the entire tea leaf and so you’re able to benefit from those nutrients. Matcha is packed with antioxidants and has been known to calm the body and mind, even thought it has almost as much caffeine as a cup of coffee
I’ve taken my matcha to the next level with this bulletproof matcha latte. I started adding coconut oil to my coffee awhile back and loved what it did – I found it changes the way my body processes the caffeine throughout the day. It is a more sustained ‘buzz’ that lasts all morning and doesn’t lead me to a crash. I also feel more alert and less jittery. I’ve found it works well in matcha too!
I also added some extra supplements. First, I add Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides, which is a supplement that is high in protein and works to heal the gut. It also has the added benefit of being good for hair, skin, nails, and bone health. This is what makes the latte foamy! I then add Moon Juice mushroom powders (these can be found from other brands in many health food stores as well). The ones I use help with thyroid health, anxiety, immunity, brain clarity, and kidney health. These are totally optional, but you can learn more about these in my Pantry Essentials post.
Bulletproof Matcha Latte
1 tsp Wight Tea Co cafe-grade organic matcha powder
2 scoops Vital Proteins collagen peptides (for your gut/bones/hair and for a frothy latte).
1 tsp Moon Juice ashwagandha (thyroid balancer/anxiety soother/sleep improver)
1/2 tsp Moon Juice reishi (POWER MUSHROOM: helps with boosting immunity/heart health/relieving stress/helping with allergy symptoms/taming inflammation/supporting brain function/protecting the liver).
1/2 tsp Moon Juice cordyceps
1 tbsp Artisana Coconut Butter (can also use coconut oil, but coconut butter lends to a bit of a sweeter and creamier latte. Warning: you will want to eat this from the jar).
12 oz 165º water
Blend for 1 minute on high. Pour and enjoy.
